Schweitzer Mountain Retreat
Mountain Luxury at Its Finest
The Schweitzer Mountain Retreat brings together the natural character of North Idaho with thoughtful modern mountain design. Designed by SOK Design Studio and brought to life by Mountain View Construction, interior design by Base Camp Design, the home was carefully planned to complement its surroundings while providing a comfortable and refined setting for both everyday living and entertaining.
With approximately 3,254 square feet of conditioned living space and more than 1,100 square feet of covered outdoor living, the home was designed to make the most of its setting. Expansive windows, generous decks, and carefully considered indoor-outdoor connections allow the surrounding landscape to remain an integral part of the home.
From the beginning, the design called for a home that felt distinctly connected to the North Idaho landscape. The exterior combines natural materials with clean architectural lines, creating a modern mountain aesthetic that feels both substantial and inviting.
Dark vertical shiplap siding, warm wood soffits, and graphite-toned metal accents establish a rich exterior palette, while the standing-seam metal roof provides durability and lasting performance through North Idaho's changing seasons.
Andersen E-Series wood-clad windows bring warmth to the interior while opening the home to expansive views. Dark bronze exteriors transition to warm Douglas Fir interiors, creating a natural connection between the architecture and the surrounding landscape.
Spaces Designed for Living
Inside, the home centers around an open and inviting main level designed to bring people together. The living and dining areas flow naturally into the chef's kitchen, creating a comfortable gathering space while maintaining a sense of separation between each area.
The primary suite provides a quieter retreat, with private access to the outdoor living areas. A covered bridge entry creates a distinctive arrival experience and adds another architectural element to the home's connection with its surroundings.
The lower level was designed with entertaining and extended stays in mind. A spacious game room, private hideaway, home office, gym, laundry, and guest accommodations provide flexibility for both family and guests. The level opens directly to a large outdoor deck and hot tub area, extending the living space beyond the walls of the home.
Throughout the interior, custom Knotty Alder doors, Douglas Fir architectural millwork, and carefully selected hardware add warmth and depth to the contemporary mountain aesthetic.
